18th-May-2008 05:12 pm - Yeee-Hawww!
Went to see The Bosshoss last night
Bloody hell that was an amazing gig
Didnt know anything about the band other than they were "cowboys", their latest album is called "stallion battalion" and they're "very big in Germany" which to be honest didn't bode well

But once they got on stage they had the most amazing stage presence and got everyone in the building dancing along to their hick country rock.

And all 7 of them lit a fag on stage - promptly put out by the man, but - as one of the bouncers commented - for a brief moment the club actually didnt smell of sweat and stale beer.
Plus they looked totally rad in doing so

I'd encourage anyone to see them if they're playing nearby

I'm hoping my sister, whom I haven't spoken to for 8 years, sent this. I'm going to try to contact her again this week.

It’s funny. When you think of someone saving a life, you think of them doing some great heroic act. When really, sometimes it’s just being there for someone, so they don’t do something incredibly tragic.

Florida PostSecret Exhibit

Over 400 postcards are now on display at the Brevard Art Museum.
1463 Highland Ave | Melbourne, FL | 321-242-0737 | facebook event page
Here are some exhibit comments from when the exhibit was in Canada.
I flew from Calgary to see if my secret was here. It is. . .
I'm still shaking.
Weird - and an unsuitable display for this museum.
I've been here twice already. It's disgustingly comforting to know that people share my shocking secrets.
I held my breath for most of the time in the exhibit to keep from crying. I cried in the bathroom.
I parked in the no parking zone to come see PostSecret.
The PostSecret exhibition tour is directed by International Arts & Artists and will be traveling through 2010.

17th-May-2008 02:16 pm - Cinnamon sugar mini cakes
Ok I was inspired by Outofthegrave's post and made cinnamon sugar mini cakes with chocolate chip faces. However I love the mini doughnut recipe from Vegan Yum Yum and used the batter recipe from that site, with a few little tweaks. My son is in the background he loves that every Saturday we have a tea party.

17th-May-2008 07:03 pm - Completely nerdy questions alert...
... I apologise now, but this will be a completely nerdy post and most likely only of interest to those who are fans of Firefly and Serenity.

Also because I am conscious of not ruining things for people if they've not seen the series or film yet, I'll put it behind a cut in case of any spoilers )

I will of course understand if people don't respond and simply sake their heads at my level of nerdity.

Mackenzie just toddled for about four and a half steps :o)

He has been standing unaided for a while now and has been taking a step - even a step and a half - but seemed to enjoy simply falling forwards and being caught after that. It had turned into a game with gales of laughter. Just a short while ago, however, it was four and a bit very distinct, very precise little steps.

... and I was here! I was SO worried that this would happen when I was at work; it didn't!

I am SO happy! :o)

Housing market = slow.

Yeah, so I'm trying to sell a house and rent one at the same time.

Interest rates = up.

My savings are recovering. Life could be worse. :D

16th-May-2008 07:47 pm - Stupid Arguments to get into with your 6 year old
Dan has a beavers day out tomorrow, with the Circus as a theme.

Me: You could be the ring master and wear your black cloak.
Dan: I don't want to be a stupid ringmaster.
Me: How about a strongman?
Dan: I don't want to be a strongman, I just want to be a beastkin.
Me: There aren't any beastkin in the circus!
Dan: Yes there are, I could be a lion
Me: I don't have any yellow face paint and am not making a lion costume tonight.
Dan: I want to be a beastkin.
Me: Bedtime!

I despair sometimes, I really do.
16th-May-2008 05:45 pm - Club Noir, scotish landscape, and some bands who seem vaguely familiar.
I definitely can't make the first two in their diary, but THIS? OMG.

16th-May-2008 05:15 pm - Mis-writing (especially for [info]lanfykins)
The BBC site says, "A new law to allow torture victims to sue torturers in British courts clears its first hurdle in the House of Lords."

There are torturers in British courts?
16th-May-2008 11:57 am - C&H tribute in Monty

I love Monty, he's a cartoonist who's always having some crazy adventure.

This time around he was time-traveling and had a chance to talk to his childhood self and give some advice...

Seth is ok.
Was just a little infection thingy.
And today I got to feed him for the first time and he has still not been sick on me.
16th-May-2008 12:31 pm - Heard on Radio 4
... and then researched online.

Armed forces personnel, who are injured in action, get treated like crap after being discharged from the military - this includes waiting extraordinarily long times on the NHS for whatever medical treatment they require to getting little or no compensation for their injuries.

While a civilian who got a sore thumb (<--- my take on it) gets half a million in payouts!

Details under here )

Completely and utterly bonkers!!
16th-May-2008 11:34 am - contact
It's highly unlikely but does anyone out there have contact details for our friend Ollie?
note: the Ollie you know is probably not the Ollie I am looking for, the Ollie I am looking for is unnaturally tall, pagan (asatru), works for the RAF and got engaged last year to a man whose ame completely escapes me (red haired, atheist, can't think of any more details).

basically unless you played the original Wildwoods game you probably never met him.

I want to email him (to tell him we've moved apart from anything else) but shortly after we arrived here the computer crashed and I lost my address book.

In more bizarre news I recently recieved an email from Carole, possibly my oldest friend with whom I am still in contact (well, now I'm in contact with her), it turns out she's not in New Zealand after all: she's in Suffolk (well, they both have sheep)
The email included a lot of photos of people I remember including some of her "little" cousins which quite frankly gave me the metasyntactic variables.

And in totally unrelated news we watched an episode of Chuck last night to see what it was like.
Under interrogation (he's an accidental spy) he reeled off a lot of top secret information which ended with "Oceanic flight eight fifteen was brought down by...".
16th-May-2008 08:58 am - Medieval Ball

On the 31st of May I am going to the Mayor's Ball in Malmesbury (the Mayor is mate of mine - should be fun).  It is a Medieval Banquet, and everyone has been asked to dress appropriately.

Now, you might think with the amount of larp I do that I'd have a good medieval dress, but I actually don't, and neither does my friend who is also coming.

So - does anyone have a medival dress (or dresses) in sizes 8/10/12, that you wouldn't mind us borrowing?  And that you could bring to the GEF...?

I promise they will be looked after, and cleaned, and returned at moot 1...
