True Names

In LRP, some people use true names as well as everyday names. Certainly I seem to remember this is the case in Maelstrom, a touch I always quite liked. Names have power and knowing your true name gives people power over you.
The question I'd like answering is how does this actually work in rp terms? What examples are there of true names being used and what impact does that have? How have people ever roleplayed it out? Does it really become the life-controlling/destroying experience I can imagine it should be, or does it never really happen? I'm really interested to know, especially if there are instances of people really going with the roleplay on this one - I'd like to know how it has been interpreted in the past, and how people think it should be interpreted. Specifically I'm thinking in terms of other people using your true name against you.

Avoid Heathrow unless you like being fingerprinted/photographed for wanting to use a plane

I have to say I knew nothing about this but assuming it's true (clearly is, there were TONS of links) I think it's horrifying! I'm glad I know now because this would certainly have ended in me being banned from flying if I'd been planning so (well I would have refused!) so I thought others might appreciate the heads up.

"Travellers should avoid using Heathrow until the airport abandons its plans for the mass fingerprinting of passengers. That is the advice from the NO2ID Expats’ group. "Other hubs, whether in the UK or in other EU countries, should be preferred for the time being," the group says in a press release. Heathrow wants to fingerprint and photograph both domestic passengers and international travellers with onward connections to other British or Irish airports. But on 26 March, following a warning from the Information Commissioner’s Office that the measure may be illegal, the fingerprinting was suspended.

The photographing or "biometric capture" of passengers is going ahead. Those who refuse will be denied access to their flights.

+ Heathrow Terminal 5 fingerprint plans 'illegal' - The Telegraph
27/3/08 +
Plans to fingerprint millions of passengers a year at Heathrow's new fifth terminal have been put on hold hours before it opens for business tomorrow. BAA, the airport operator, took the decision after being warned by the Government's Information Commissioner that the move could
breach the Data Protection Act.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/03/26/nheathrow226.xml

Boo!
Anyway here are two very interesting links, especially the first one. I would suggest reading them:
http://wikileaks.org/wiki/National_Identity_Scheme_Options_Analysis_Outcome
http://www.anorak.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/nis_options_analysis_outcome.pdf
Am feeling lazy and junk fooded out so haven't read whole thing but seems kind of government goes insane tastic.

Question. Is it better to stick to vegan principles or eat something provided by one's mother that has a minute amount of whey powder in. My instincts say do the thing that doesn't cause my lovely mum huge amounts of stress in feeding me. But I don't know. Interested to hear opinions.

My little sponsor piggie, Spike, has died.
Am really sad now. He did not know what pig food was either and would only eat rabbit food.

Spike was a full boar and we took him in on the condition that his owners would pay for him to be castrated. They assured us they would but we are still waiting for the money. Spike was only nine months old when he arrived on the 17th of October 1999, but he had already outgrown his home. We wish people would give a lot more thought to what they are taking on before buying pets.

Spike lives with Truffles now and is a very human friendly pig and enjoys having a good scratch with a broom'

Community

OK

I got bored and overly thinky. So I set up a community called bornin77
http://community.livejournal.com/bornin77/profile

So if you were born in 77 feel free to go there, join and ponder: have things turned out like you'd planned? What sucks? What would you like to change? What's the plan now?

Etc
